Psychotherapy offers the opportunity to talk regularly, in confidence to someone not otherwise involved in your life. All sorts of people come to psychotherapy for many different reasons. I have experience of a very wide variety of people who have usually come because they are struggling in some way.Sometimes it is a relief just to talk. Often people gain new perspectives on themselves and their lives. Over time, people can come to understand themselves better, often becoming more accepting of themselves – simply feeling better in their own skin.Often people become clearer about their hopes, values and possibilities and choose to make changes, which are often subtle but far reaching.
I am a fully qualified, UKCP registered psychotherapist with over 25 years experience in the field. I also have an MA in psychotherapy. I have been in private practice since 2003. I draw on the humanistic, psychoanalytic and existential traditions in my work.
As for my background, I graduated from Edinburgh University in 1979, having studied modern languages and then worked in the City as a chartered accountant. I moved to Wales in 1994. In the 1980’s I developed an interest in psychotherapy and went on to complete various counselling trainings (WPF, PPF, CRUSE). I worked as a counsellor in the voluntary sector and then trained as a psychotherapist with the Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy. As part of my training I did a 21 month placement in an outpatient mental health unit seeing patients for psychotherapy.
I offer regular, weekly 50 minute sessions, costing £75 to individual adults, couples and student counsellors and psychotherapists. Sometimes people chose to come more frequently. Early morning, daytime and evening appointments are available. I practice in a comfortable, dedicated consulting room in W2, Wellington House, which is at the junction of central Cardiff, Riverside and Canton. There is free on street parking and free 2 hour parking in a nearby car park. For a map see contact section below.
I offer psychotherapy in French for French speakers who prefer to talk in their mother tongue.
